The Unit Research Colloquium and Utilization Workshop conducted by the Research and Development Center of JBLCF\u2013Bacolod provide opportunity for faculty and staff researchers to present their research output in a venue wherein their study can be critiqued for improvement as well as for findings of the studies be utilized. Last August 23 -24, 2018, these activities were held at the HMA Function Hall showcasing nine (9) papers for presentation. This two-day activity was carefully planned and successfully conducted through the leadership of Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo, Research Coordinator of the unit, and the working committees who actively worked hand in hand to prepare and ensure that the activity will run smoothly.<\/p>\n

The keynote speaker on the first day of the event was Capt. Luis G. Evidente, Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of JBLFMU and his message revolved on the theme of the event: \u201cStronger Commitment to Excellence in Maritime Education and Training through Research\u201d; while Dr. Nenie M. Galedo, Education Supervisor 2 of the Commission of Higher Education Region 6 was invited to join the activity as representative of the commission and informed the participants about the need also to align the research studies of the academe with the thrusts and agenda of CHED in research.<\/p>\n

To critique the individual papers presented for further improvement, the committee invited three research experts who acted as panel of reactors in the colloquium namely, Dr. Melchor M. Magramo, Director, Research & Extension, John B. Lacson Maritime University; Dr. Carmen C. Menes, Head for Research, Accreditation and Quality Management, La Consolacion College Bacolod; and Dr. Riza T. Manalo of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.<\/p>\n

The papers that were presented are as follows: \u201cSimulation Competencies of BSMT 3 Students in Seamanship 5\u201d by 2\/M Hendrickson E. Dioko, Faculty-College of Maritime Education; \u201cEngine Room Hazards, Unsafe Practices and Opportunities for Improvement\u201d by 3\/E Ronnie C. Montano, Subject Area Head, Engine-College of Maritime Education; \u201cMeasures to Enhance the Implementation of Security and Safety in JBLCF-Bacolod\u201d by Mrs. Joanna S. Gudio, Subject Area Head for Social Sciences, Languages and Research, College of Maritime Education, \u201cStudents\u2019 Engagement and Benefits of the Community Outreach Activities of the College of Business Education\u201d by Dr. Violeta Neri, Faculty, College of Business; \u201cCareer Choice of Customs Administration and Hotel and Restaurant Management Students\u201d by Mrs. Ana Juline C. Dangallo, Dean, College of Business; and \u201cAddressing Stakeholders\u2019 Feedback for Continuous Improvement: An Institutional Practice\u201d by Mr. Robert O. Parcia, Administrator, JBLCF-Bacolod.<\/p>\n

On the second day of the activity, three research studies conducted on the Integrated Environmental Management Program of JBLCF-Bacolod were also presented as part of the accomplishments of the program. Dr. Carmen Menes, Head of Research, Accreditation and Quality Management of La Consolacion College Bacolod was the keynote speaker who shared her insights on the theme: \u201cResearch Utilization: Learning and Making Institutional Decision through Research.\u201d She also shared her expertise by giving her impressions and reactions on the strengths and weaknesses of the papers presented.<\/p>\n

The authors and the titles of the study are as follows: Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo, Unit Research Coordinator, who presented her paper, \u201cIntegrated Environmental Management Program: Social Impact, Value Added Experience and Challenges,\u201d Mr. Joemil G. Galve, Community Extension and Services Officer with his paper, \u201cIEMP-Information Education Campaign Programs, Activities and Initiatives and their Influence on the Internal Stakeholders,\u201d and Mrs. Ruby D. Causing, Faculty, College of Maritime Education with her paper, \u201cAwareness and Status of Compliance with the IEMP Environmental Policies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The student participants as they actively engaged themselves in the exchange of ideas during the open forum<\/p>\n

The most important part of the two-day activity was the research utilization workshop wherein department heads and employees concerned were formed into groups to brainstorm and draft their action plan or solutions to address the findings and recommendations of the studies presented. The entire activity was very productive and rewarding to the participants believing that once again they have lived up to their commitment to contribute through their effort in research to achieve excellence in maritime education and training.<\/p>\n
