May 14, 2021—True to its commitment to strengthening the research culture and engaging the employees and students in promoting the research thrust of the university, JBLCF-Bacolod hosted the 2020-2021 Unit Research Colloquium and Sharing of Best Practices on May 14, 2021, held via Zoom. This virtual event was graced by Dr. Melchor M. Magramo, JBLFMU Director for Research and Extension, and Capt. Luis G. Evidente, Executive Assistant to the CEO who shared his views about the theme, \u201cMaritime Education and Training on Remote Mode: Research Priorities, Opportunities, and Future Directions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The paper presentations featured seven best papers by faculty and students. The first paper, \u201cMaritime Security as Perceived by Cadets in Coastwise Domestic Shipping,\u201d was presented by 2\/M Albert O. Grapa and 2\/M Edgar T. Lemoncito, Jr., both faculty members of the BSMT program. 3\/Engineers Paul B. Tibo-oc, Charles N. Mangga, and Ronnie C. Monta\u00f1o, Engine instructors in the College of Maritime Education, presented their paper entitled, \u201cImpact of Engine Room Simulator as a Tool for Training and Assessing BSMarE Students\u2019 Performance in Engine Watchkeeping,\u201d while Miss Ruth B. Balajadia, Program Head for BSCA of the College of Business and Education, shared her paper on \u201cRelevance and Responsiveness of the BSCA Program as Assessed by Stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Miss Irene C. Mamon and Mr. Mark Anthony M. Apurado, both teachers from the Basic Education Department, presented their papers, \u201cNote-Taking Behavior of Top-Performing Junior High School Students\u201d and \u201cParental Involvement and Its Impact on the Periodic Grades and Classroom Behavior of Basic Education Students,\u201d respectively.<\/p>\n

Two groups of students representing the BSMT and BSMarE programs also presented their papers at the said event. The first paper, \u201cElectric Mousetrap: A Prototype,\u201d was shared by Midpn. Gabriel Miles F. Burata, Ernesto Gus B. Subong, and Reyginald B. Mabilog, all BSMarE students. The second paper, entitled \u201cMaritime Students\u2019 Motivational Beliefs and Learning Strategies in Preparation for Cadetship Program,\u201d was presented by Midpn. Jovofs S. Rufino and Welcky John M. Platil, both BSMT students.<\/p>\n

For the first time in JBLCF-Bacolod, this activity featured two of the Best Practices in the unit, particularly after the pandemic happened. The Academic Assessment Office shared the first one with the title, \u201cEnsuring Quality Education through Effective Course Outcome Assessment in the New Normal,\u201d with their department presenter, 3\/E Charles N. Mangga, Junior Level Assessor. The second presentation was shared by 2\/M Rudy V. Gonzaga, Head-Shipboard Training Office, with \u201cShipboard Training Office–Ensuring Quality Control and Efficient Delivery of Services for Internal Stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n

Engr. Roberto Neal S. Sobrejuanite, Administrator of JBLCF-Bacolod, commended the presenters for actively participating in the activity, making it a perfect clincher for the Research Department for the school year 2020-2021.<\/p>\n

2\/M Eleno S. Sing, Dean of the College of Maritime Education, and Midpn. Franz Gabriel D. Baylon, President of the Supreme Student Government, gave their impressions as a form of response to the papers presented. Mrs. Darlene D. Sabandal took control of the flow of the program as Master of Ceremony.<\/p>\n

The Unit Research Colloquium and Sharing of Best Practices was indeed another fruitful event for JBLCF-Bacolod. Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo, the Research Coordinator of the Bacolod campus, and her ever-supportive staff, Miss Geneveve M. Aguilar, are grateful for the usual support of the Department Heads, faculty, and staff, and students who tirelessly extend their support to the Research Department in realizing its goals.<\/p>\n
