Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Arevalo), Inc. actively participated in a benchmarking activity hosted by the Northern Iloilo State University focused on <strong>best practices in research and extension<\/strong>, reinforcing institutional collaboration through knowledge exchange, innovation, and partnership-building. The activity culminated in the formal signing of a <strong>Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)<\/strong> between both institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative was <strong>spearheaded by Dr. Roderick R. Germo<\/strong>, OIC Research Coordinator of JBLFMU-A, who led and organized the JBLFMU-A delegation throughout the benchmarking engagement. His leadership ensured the smooth coordination of institutional participation and strengthened JBLFMU-A\u2019s commitment to advancing research and extension systems through strategic partnerships.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"624\" height=\"468\" src=\"https:\/\/research.jblfmu.edu.ph\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Picture1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2304\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Opening Program and Institutional Welcome<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The program formally opened with an invocation, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the NISU Hymn. The welcome remarks were delivered by <strong>Dr. Larry B. Deysolong<\/strong>, Vice President for Research and Extension of NISU, who introduced the university\u2019s key research and extension officials and emphasized the importance of inter-institutional collaboration in advancing innovation, research productivity, and community engagement<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Presentation of JBLFMU-A Delegates and Institutional Overview<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>presentation of JBLFMU-A delegates<\/strong> was delivered by <strong>Dr. Brian Gil S. Sarinas<\/strong>, OIC Director for Research and Development and Community Extension Services of JBLFMU, <strong>on behalf of Mr. Robert O. Parcia, Administrator<\/strong> of JBLFMU-A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Germo, as the lead organizer of the delegation, ensured the proper coordination and participation of all JBLFMU-A representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the session, Dr. Sarinas also presented a comprehensive <strong>video overview of the JBLFMU system<\/strong>, highlighting the university\u2019s academic programs, maritime training facilities, research initiatives, and extension services. This provided NISU participants with a holistic understanding of JBLFMU-A\u2019s institutional systems and development direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sharing of Best Practices in Research, Innovation, and Extension<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The benchmarking activity featured structured presentations from NISU\u2019s experts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Research Initiatives<\/strong> \u2013 <em>Ms. Ladelyn Tolentino<\/em>, Research Specialist II, NISU Research Office<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>KMITT Initiatives<\/strong> \u2013 <em>Dr. Bon Eric Besonia<\/em>, University Director, Knowledge Management, Innovation, Technology Transfer (KMITT)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Extension Initiatives<\/strong> \u2013 <em>Dr. Rene Jun B. Belgica<\/em>, University Director, Extension Services Office<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These presentations highlighted effective systems in research management, innovation development, and community extension programs that promote sustainable development and institutional excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An open forum followed, allowing both institutions to exchange insights and identify potential areas for future collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>MOA and MOU Signing: Formalizing Institutional Collaboration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A significant milestone of the activity was the ceremonial signing of the <strong>Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)<\/strong> and <strong>Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)<\/strong>, formally strengthening the partnership between NISU and JBLFMU-A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement establishes collaboration in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Joint research and extension programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty, staff, and student exchanges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Capacity building and professional development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Innovation and knowledge sharing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disaster Risk Reduction and resilience initiatives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intellectual property and research collaboration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Brian Gil S. Sarinas<\/strong> and <strong>Dr. Geneva Eler<\/strong>, Dean of the Graduate School served as representatives of <strong>Mr. Robert O. Parcia, MSMM<\/strong>, Administrator of JBLFMU-A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the NISU side, <strong>Dr. Larry B. Deysolong<\/strong>, Vice President for Research and Extension, represented <strong>Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo, D. Eng.<\/strong>, University President of NISU, and also served as witness to the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MOA and MOU reflect both institutions\u2019 shared commitment to advancing academic excellence, strengthening institutional systems, and promoting impactful research and extension initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Step Toward Stronger Academic Synergy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The activity concluded with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to sustain collaboration through future joint programs, research initiatives, and extension engagements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this benchmarking activity led by <strong>Dr. Roderick R. Germo<\/strong>, JBLFMU-A strengthened its institutional linkages with NISU and gained valuable insights into best practices in research and extension.
