URDC spearheads collaborative discussions in formulating the University Research Agenda for 2023-2024

The JBLFMU Research and Development Council led by Dr. Melchor M. Magramo, JBLFMU Director for Research and Extension, and the Unit Research Coordinators, Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo (JBLCF-Bacolod), Dr. Brian Gil S. Sarinas (JBLFMU-Arevalo), and Dr. Rolando A. Alimen (JBLFMU-Molo) took the lead in conducting a collaborative workshop aimed at formulating the University Research Agenda for the upcoming School Year 2023-2024. This collaborative workshop had the following objectives: (1) To review the Research Agenda for AY 2022-2023, and (2) To identify researchable topics for inclusion in the University Research Agenda for the AY 2023-2024.

This activity, held based on the mandate of Dr. Mary Lou L. Arcelo (Chairman of the Board) and Dr. Ronald L. Sebastian (Chief Executive Officer), was joined by focal people from the three academic units composed of the Community Extension Officers, Deans and Principals of the various academic departments, Placement Officers, and Onboard Training Officers.

This dynamic session produced a series of thought-provoking research themes, carefully aligned with the university’s overarching research priorities. Noteworthy topics encompassed a wide spectrum, including Maritime Education and Training, Marine Environment, Deployment, Training, Monitoring, and Evaluation of Cadets, Innovations in Teaching Pedagogy, Stakeholders Feedback, Assessment of Learning/Academic Performance of Students, Occupational Safety and Security, and Tracer Studies, among others.

This collaborative effort sets the stage for a promising year of innovative research and development, propelling JBLFMU further into the forefront of academic excellence. The event was held at the JBL Hall Lobby in JBLFMU-Arevalo on August 3 to 4, 2023.

JBLCF-Bacolod Empowers Faculty and Staff with Enhanced Research Capabilities

From September 6 to 8, 2023, JBLCF-Bacolod hosted the annual Research Capability Enhancement Workshop and Research Proposal Writing event, taking a proactive step to tackle the issue of delayed research submissions among faculty and volunteer staff.

The workshop, held at the MLA Conference Room of JBLCF-Bacolod, introduced a new level of personalized assistance, enabling researchers to make substantial progress on their proposals in just three days, allowing them to concentrate solely on their research tasks without the distractions of their academic responsibilities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Distinguished in-house experts shared their expertise with the participants on the following topics:

  • Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo: (1) Revisiting the Unit Research Agenda & Identifying Research Topics, (2) JBLFMU Research Template, (3) Crafting the Introduction of a Research Proposal and (4) Designing the Research Instrument
  • Dr. Elisa V. Garcia: Conducting Literature Searches and Utilizing Referencing Tools in Scholarly Works
  • Dr. Sylvino V. Tupas: A Comprehensive Review of Research Designs, Sampling Techniques, Instrument Validity and Reliability, and Statistical Tools

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The workshops encompassed a range of crucial components which included the following:

  • Crafting the Letter of Intent and Title Proposal
  • Drafting a Comprehensive Review of Related Literature with Multiple Sources
  • Collaboratively Developing the Rationale of the Study, Theoretical/Conceptual Framework, Statement of the Problem/Objectives of the Study, and Hypothesis
  • Drafting the Methods Section of the Research Proposal
  • Preparing a Draft of the Research Instrument

Remarkably, the workshop yielded twelve well-drafted research proposals within the first two days. These proposals were subsequently reviewed and critiqued on the third day, highlighting the workshop’s effectiveness in boosting research productivity and quality.

This event is a testament to JBLCF-Bacolod’s unwavering commitment to elevating research capabilities within its academic community. We express our sincere gratitude to the Engr. Roberto Neal S. JBLCF-Bacolod Celebrates Sharing of Knowledge and Best Innovative Practices during Unit Research Colloquium

The halls of HMA Function Hall, JBLCF-Bacolod, buzzed with intellectual enthusiasm on May 17, 2023, as the institution hosted a remarkable event – the Unit Research Colloquium & Sharing of Best Innovative Practices. Faculty, staff, and students converged to present their thought-provoking studies and revolutionary practices, highlighting the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

The event featured an impressive lineup of studies, each exploring diverse facets of knowledge. Faculty and staff presented the following studies that underscored their dedication to enhancing education and pushing boundaries in their respective fields:

This Unit Research Colloquium and Sharing of Best Innovative Practices exemplified the institution’s vibrant culture of inquiry, innovation, and progress. JBLCF-Bacolod continues to push the boundaries of academia, nurturing an environment where research, knowledge, and innovation intersect to shape a brighter future.

The event took a leap under the leadership of Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo, Research Coordinator of JBLCF-Bacolod, and was graced by the presence of the JBLFMU Director for Research and Extension, Dr. Melchor M. Magramo; the Executive Assistant to the CEO, Capt. Luis G. Evidente; the Director for Academic Affairs, Dr. Elena Eleperia; and the Administrator of JBLCF-Bacolod, Engr. Roberto Neal S. Sobrejuanite. Gratitude and due recognition are also expressed for the men and women in Yellow, the members of the JBLCF-Bacolod Research Committee.

Papers on Education and Training Presented at the PSERE 30th Annual Conference

The 30th Philippine Society for Educational Research and Evaluation (PSERE) Annual Conference, held from May 29 to 31, 2023, at CEU-Mendiola, Manila, proved to be an enriching platform for educators and researchers to delve into the intricacies of educational transitions and stakeholder expectations. This national-level event brought together scholars and practitioners to engage in robust discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of education.

 

The paper, “Addressing Stakeholders’ Expectations on Maritime Education and Training through Research: Challenges, Institutional Initiatives, and Future Directions,” presented by Dr. Emeliza Estimo and co-authored by Engr. Roberto Neal S. Sobrejuanite tackled the crucial topic of maritime education and training. The paper explored the challenges and opportunities inherent in meeting stakeholders’ expectations in this vital sector. The paper outlined institutional initiatives and paved the way for future directions to ensure the continued enhancement of maritime education.

 

Another paper, “Transitioning from In-Class to Flexible Teaching Modalities as Experienced by   Teachers,” presented by Ms. Darlene D. Sabandal, Faculty from the College of Business, shed light on the evolving educational landscape by examining the experiences of teachers as they navigated the transition from traditional in-class teaching to more flexible modalities during the time of the pandemic.

The PSERE Annual Conference provided a platform for these thought-provoking presentations, emphasizing the dynamic nature of education and the importance of research in shaping its trajectory. CEU-Mendiola’s hosting of this event reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to advancing educational practices and promoting meaningful dialogues among educators, researchers, and stakeholders.

JB College of Business receives awards at the 6th Philippine Conference on Multidisciplinary Research

A team of faculty researchers from JBLCF-Bacolod’s College of Business made significant contributions at the 6th Philippine Conference on Multidisciplinary Research, a virtual event conducted via Zoom from March 31 to April 1, 2023. The team presented four papers during this esteemed conference, showcasing their commitment to academic inquiry and scholarly exploration.

Dr. Violeta A. Neri, the Dean of the College of Business and Education, presented a paper titled “Bridging the Gap in the Housekeeping Competencies of Bachelor of Science among Hospitality Management Students.” She also received a Research Citation Award, underscoring the depth and significance of her research endeavors.

Mr. Shane Fornis, a dedicated faculty member in the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management program, presented a paper titled “Practicum Performance of BSHRM Trainees from the Lens of the Industry Stakeholders.” His presentation prowess earned him the Best Oral Research Presenter award, highlighting his ability to communicate intricate research concepts to the audience effectively.

Ms. Ruth B. Balajadia, the Program Head for the Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration program, contributed to the conference as a paper presenter. Her paper, “Relevance and Responsiveness of the Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration Program as Assessed by Stakeholders,” added a valuable perspective to the multidisciplinary discourse.

Ms. Kristine Rose Necesario, another esteemed faculty member in the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management program, also served as a paper presenter. Her contribution, titled “Students’ Satisfaction with the Laboratory Services and Facilities in the College of Business Laboratory Areas,” shed light on the importance of fostering a conducive learning environment.

These achievements underscore JBLCF-Bacolod’s commitment to academic excellence, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
