42nd Thailand TESOL International Conference

The 42nd Thailand TESOL International Conference addressed a wide range of timely themes regarding innovation, engagement, and resilience for TESOL communities concerning the digital era’s impact on English teaching and learning during this ever-changing disruptive sociocultural and educational contexts. The paper presentation experience during the two-day conference of TESOL Thailand last January 27-28, 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand has been a great opportunity for me to meet fellow educators and language enthusiasts all across the globe.

The conference commenced with the opening ceremony and Dr. Singhanat Nomnian president of the TESOL Thailand shared that there should be resilient ELT practices, processes and policies play significant roles to offer significant research for a better tomorrow. Meanwhile, the keynote speaker Dr. Phra Dhammavatjarabundit of Chulangkorn University, Thailand shared about English language teaching and learning in the future. Plenary talks of the invited plenary speakers were also shared about finding balance in the post-pandemic world, ideas for coping with stresses in today’s classroom, and enhancing teachers’ digital competence by focusing on the delivery of blended teacher education. Paper presenters like me were given an avenue to share our research with an audience and it was such a great experience having an exchange of ideas with fellow speakers of different cultures and beliefs to make difference in the world of language learning.

It was highlighted during the closing ceremonies that TESOL practitioners from a variety of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary fields to nourish insightful ELT ground-breaking research, pedagogies, materials, and innovations for current and future endeavors in local and global contexts. Existing challenges and new opportunities for teachers call for more innovative, engaging, and resilient ELT practices.

Patent Seminar at JBLFMU-Molo

The Research Department of JBLFMU-Molo conducted its First Training-Workshop on Patent Search and Patent Drafting last March 14-17, 2023, held at the Third Floor of the University Library. This seminar-workshop was attended by thirty (30) faculty and staff from JBLFMU-Molo and five (5) from JBLCF-Bacolod.

Mr. Robert O. Parcia, Administrator of JBLFMU-Molo, gave his welcome remarks. Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, Regional Director of DOST-Region 6, was the Inspirational Speaker, and Dr. Armando R. Reosura, Director of Intellectual Property Management at Carlos Hilado Memorial State University, was the resource speaker. On the last day of the workshop, the participants presented their respective inventions and utility models.

Workshop on Five-Year Research Agenda of JBLFMU-Molo

The members of the Research Committee, faculty members, selected students, and non-teaching staff attended the Workshop on the formulation of the Five-Year Research Agenda of the JBLFMU-Molo starting School Year 2022-2023. The research activity started with a prayer, followed by National Anthem, and JBLFMU Hymn. Mr. Robert O. Parcia, MMM, had given his welcome remarks to further enlighten the participants on the objectives of the activity. Dr. Victor B. Jaleco, Member of the Research Committee of JBLFMU-Molo introduced the invited three (3) speakers. The invited speakers were the following: (1) Dr. Rex C. Casiple of CHED Region 6, (2) Engineer Rowen R. Gelonga, Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and (3) Mrs. Ana Mae Inocencio of DOST Region 6. The activity was conducted at the College Library-Extension of JBLFMU-Molo last August 26, 2022. Dr. Rolando A. Alimen, Research Coordinator of JBLFMU-Molo gave his closing remarks.

PATENT TRAINING AT ISAT-UNIVERSITY

The Western Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (WVCIEERD) conducted a Training-Workshop on Patent and Patent Drafting held at the HRT Center of Iloilo Science and Technology University, Lapaz, Iloilo City, Philippines, last September 20-23, 2022. Five (5) engineers of JBLFMU-Molo attended the training workshop. These engineers were the following: (1) Engr. Victor B. Jaleco, PhD, (2) Engr. Allan Roberto, (3) Engr Nerios Cortejo, (4) Engr. Ernie Teves, and (5) Engr. Rolando A. Alimen, PhD. The resource speaker was Engr. Armando R. Reosura, Ph.D., Professor II and Director of Intellectual Property Management Office of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University, Bacolod City, Philippines. The two (2) facilitators were: (1) Professor Julie Ann A. Salido, Associate Professor IV and Technical Expert (Mechanical) of the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) of the Aklan State University, and (2) Engr. Monalyn L. Oloroso, Assistant Professor I of Capiz State University-Burias Campus, Philippines.

DOST-PCIEERD approves the research proposal of engineers of JBLFMU-Molo under the RRI

The DOST-PCIEERD (Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development) has approved the research proposal of engineers of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo under the RRI (Regional Research Institution). The project is entitled “Design and Development of Marine Sewage Treatment Plant (MSTP) for Domestic Vessels.” The members of the team are the following: (1) Engr. Rolando A. Alimen, PhD. (2) Engr. Ernie Jay Teves, (3) Engr. Allan Roberto, (4) Engr. Nerios Cortejo, (5) Engr. Victor B. Jaleco, Ph.D., and (6) Chief Engr. Agustin Bedia. The ceremony of the Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was held last October 4, 2022, at Venice Grand Canal Mall, McKinley, Taguig City, Philippines. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Ronald Raymond L. Sebastian, CEO of JBLFMU-Molo, Mr. Robert O. Parcia, and Dr. Rolando A. Alimen as Project Leader together with Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, Executive Director of DOST-PCIEERD-Manila.
