DOST-PCIEERD approves the research proposal of engineers of JBLFMU-Molo under the RRI

The DOST-PCIEERD (Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development) has approved the research proposal of engineers of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo under the RRI (Regional Research Institution). The project is entitled “Design and Development of Marine Sewage Treatment Plant (MSTP) for Domestic Vessels.” The members of the team are the following: (1) Engr. Rolando A. Alimen, PhD. (2) Engr. Ernie Jay Teves, (3) Engr. Allan Roberto, (4) Engr. Nerios Cortejo, (5) Engr. Victor B. Jaleco, Ph.D., and (6) Chief Engr. Agustin Bedia. The ceremony of the Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was held last October 4, 2022, at Venice Grand Canal Mall, McKinley, Taguig City, Philippines. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Ronald Raymond L. Sebastian, CEO of JBLFMU-Molo, Mr. Robert O. Parcia, and Dr. Rolando A. Alimen as Project Leader together with Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, Executive Director of DOST-PCIEERD-Manila.

 

Research Colloquium on Gender and Development 2021

The John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo, in collaboration with United Federation of Filipino-American Educators (UNIFFIED)-Western Visayas Chapter, conducted its First Virtual Gender Research Colloquium last March 26, 2021, via zoom and via JBLFMU-Molo Student Affairs FB page. Dr. Julienne Marie S. Somosot explained the overview of this activity to the participants. Mr. Robert O. Parcia, the administrator of JBLFMU-Molo, welcomed the participants. Dr. Rolando A. Alimen, Research Coordinator and President of UNIFFIED-Western Visayas, shared his message. Dr. Claudette Laganipa introduced the keynote speaker-Dr. Stella G. Fernandez, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences of the Central Philippine University, Jaro, Iloilo City, Philippines. After her talk, different studies were presented. These studies focused on women empowerment, and gender development, such as the following: (1) Women Empowerment in Leading Environment Education (EE) and Waste Management Advocacy (WMA) among Mothers in Maritime University, (2) Life Problems and Coping Strategies of Seafarers’ Wives, (3) Babayi, Kumusta ka sa Tunga sang Pandemya? The Power of Getting Up Through Azaldua’s Ethics of Hope, (4) The Psychology of Maritime Education: A Gender-Based Perspective, (5) Internationalization of Coire Values among Graduating Business Students.

International Conference by SEA AIR

The southeast Asian Association for Institutional Research (SEAAIR) conducted its yearly conference with “Diversity in Education” last November 23-24, 2022. This conference includes research presentations of different studies of the researchers coming from different places Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, and others all over the world. The selection of the studies was rigorous and rigid. John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU)-Molo, Iloilo City, submitted four (4) studies, but only two (2) were accepted. The first study entitled “Laboratory Services leading to Quality of Maritime Education and Training (MET) was authored by Engr. Edsel S. Gildore and Dr. Rolando A. Alimen. The second study was entitled “Home and School Environment, Academic Achievement and Performance in Maritime Schools Assessment Program: bases for Instructional Enhancement,” authored by Dr. Marie Bella-Estores, a faculty member of the College of Maritime Education JBLFMU-Molo, Iloilo City, Philippines. The SEA AIR-acting president, Professor Dr. Ma. Florecilla Cortes Cinches approved the application of JBLFMU-Molo as an official member of this organization.

 

John B-Molo Conducted an Online Seminar

The Research Department of JBLFMU-Molo conducted a Webinar Seminar on “Elements of Good Online Instruments and Innovative Research” last December 6, 2021. The program was started by prayer, national anthem, and JBLF hymn. The participants were welcomed by Mr. Robert O. Parcia, administrator of JBLFMU-Molo. Dr. Rolando A. Alimen, the Research Coordinator of JBLFMU-Molo, explained the rationale and significant contributions of the seminar. Dr. Victor B. Jaleco introduced the inspirational speaker in Dr. Rex C. Casiple. Dr. Casiple is the Chief Education Program Specialist of CHED Region 6. Dr. Rex C. Casiple extended his congratulations to JBLFMU as an autonomous university as a starting point of his message. The first speaker was introduced by Dr. Zima Tarantan, a Member of the Research Committee. Dr. Ma. Cecilia Detosil-Alimen, Full Professor of the University of San Agustin, discussed the “Elements of Good Online instruments” after the introduction given by Dr. Tarantan. Dr. James F. Montehersomo, a Member of the Research Committee of JBLFMU-Molo, introduced the second speaker to Professor Julie Ann A. Salido from Aklan State University. Professor Salido explained the “Innovative Research” to the participants. After the talks and discussions, the participants asked several questions to the two speakers. Dr. Melba Surmieda delivered the reaction. Dr. Melchor M. Magramo, Research Director of JBLFMU, closed the program by giving his remarks and insights. Dr. Juliene Marie Sumosot was the emcee of the said online activity.
