Papers on Education and Training Presented at the PSERE 30th Annual Conference

The 30th Philippine Society for Educational Research and Evaluation (PSERE) Annual Conference, held from May 29 to 31, 2023, at CEU-Mendiola, Manila, proved to be an enriching platform for educators and researchers to delve into the intricacies of educational transitions and stakeholder expectations. This national-level event brought together scholars and practitioners to engage in robust discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of education.

 

The paper, “Addressing Stakeholders’ Expectations on Maritime Education and Training through Research: Challenges, Institutional Initiatives, and Future Directions,” presented by Dr. Emeliza Estimo and co-authored by Engr. Roberto Neal S. Sobrejuanite tackled the crucial topic of maritime education and training. The paper explored the challenges and opportunities inherent in meeting stakeholders’ expectations in this vital sector. The paper outlined institutional initiatives and paved the way for future directions to ensure the continued enhancement of maritime education.

 

Another paper, “Transitioning from In-Class to Flexible Teaching Modalities as Experienced by   Teachers,” presented by Ms. Darlene D. Sabandal, Faculty from the College of Business, shed light on the evolving educational landscape by examining the experiences of teachers as they navigated the transition from traditional in-class teaching to more flexible modalities during the time of the pandemic.

The PSERE Annual Conference provided a platform for these thought-provoking presentations, emphasizing the dynamic nature of education and the importance of research in shaping its trajectory. JB College of Business receives awards at the 6th Philippine Conference on Multidisciplinary Research

A team of faculty researchers from JBLCF-Bacolod’s College of Business made significant contributions at the 6th Philippine Conference on Multidisciplinary Research, a virtual event conducted via Zoom from March 31 to April 1, 2023. The team presented four papers during this esteemed conference, showcasing their commitment to academic inquiry and scholarly exploration.

Dr. Violeta A. Neri, the Dean of the College of Business and Education, presented a paper titled “Bridging the Gap in the Housekeeping Competencies of Bachelor of Science among Hospitality Management Students.” She also received a Research Citation Award, underscoring the depth and significance of her research endeavors.

Mr. Shane Fornis, a dedicated faculty member in the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management program, presented a paper titled “Practicum Performance of BSHRM Trainees from the Lens of the Industry Stakeholders.” His presentation prowess earned him the Best Oral Research Presenter award, highlighting his ability to communicate intricate research concepts to the audience effectively.

Ms. Ruth B. Balajadia, the Program Head for the Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration program, contributed to the conference as a paper presenter. Her paper, “Relevance and Responsiveness of the Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration Program as Assessed by Stakeholders,” added a valuable perspective to the multidisciplinary discourse.

Ms. Kristine Rose Necesario, another esteemed faculty member in the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management program, also served as a paper presenter. Her contribution, titled “Students’ Satisfaction with the Laboratory Services and Facilities in the College of Business Laboratory Areas,” shed light on the importance of fostering a conducive learning environment.

Padernal and Olimpos shine at International Educators’ Conference

The Research And Development Center and the JBLCF-BACOLOD academic and research community congratulate MR. ROGIE E. PADERNAL and 3/E PAUL T. OLIMPOS, for their successful paper presentations at the 2023 International Educators’ Conference hosted by the STI West Negros University held on February 22-24, 2023, in collaboration with the GEO Global Educators Professional Enhancement International, Inc. RA Enhances Research Leadership Skills through De La Salle University’s Engaging Program

JBLCF-Bacolod’s Research Assistant, Mr. Rogie E. Padernal, a faculty member in Mathematics education, embarked on a transformative journey. From February 16 to 18, 2023, Padernal actively participated in a dynamic 3-day Short Course on Research Leadership, orchestrated through Zoom by De La Salle University-Manila.

This visionary initiative was tailored for faculty members from diverse higher education institutions, all united by a shared passion for cultivating and honing their research leadership prowess. Padernal’s enthusiastic involvement reflected his unwavering commitment to advancing his personal and institutional research agenda.

The course unfurled across 11 comprehensive modules, each uniquely designed to augment the skill set required for effective research leadership. These modules encompassed a wide spectrum, including ‘The Big Picture,’ which illuminates the broader context of research, ‘Effective Work Habits’ for optimal productivity, ‘Managing Research Ethics’ for ethically sound research practices, ‘Obtaining Funding’ to fuel innovative endeavors, ‘Mentoring and Publishing’ to nurture emerging talents, ‘Managing Research Teams’ for collaborative excellence, ‘Professional Networking’ to fortify industry bonds, ‘Intellectual Property’ preservation, ‘Institutional Research Management’ strategies, and ‘Career Planning’ to pave pathways for growth.

CAQDAS Training Workshop Equips JB Researchers

A  leap forward in research capabilities took place as six members of the JBLCF-Bacolod Research Committee triumphantly completed the Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS) Training Workshop. Held virtually from January 19 to 21, 2023, with Dr. Jovito Anito, Jr. as the speaker-trainer, this transformative workshop immersed the following participants in advanced data analysis methodologies.

The workshop’s primary focus was to familiarize participants with Orange, a powerful software designed to analyze qualitative data comprehensively. Another innovative addition was Otter.ai, a cutting-edge tool that enables seamless recording and transcription of qualitative data from interviews and focus group discussions. Notably, both software applications are available for free download from the web, reinforcing accessibility and ease of Integration.
