2018 System Research Colloquium, Sharing of Best Practices, and Utilization Workshop held in JBLFMU-Molo

The 2018 System Research Colloquium, Sharing of Best Practices, and Utilization Workshop, a three-in-one event, was held at the CSM Building of JBLFMU-Molo on February 15, 2018. This yearly event strengthens the research culture and enthusiasm among Lacsonian communities as it features new innovative ideas, knowledge and best practices every year. This activity is one of the highlights of the Foundation Anniversary celebration of JBLFMU. This year, it was graced by distinguished personalities from different institutions who come to share their knowledge, experiences and expertise in the field of research.

Administrators, department heads, selected faculty and staff, and students from the three units namely JBLFMU-Molo, JBLFMU-Arevalo and JBLCF-Bacolod convened in this event to provide an opportunity for brilliant studies to be presented and for research findings to be discussed and utilized by the JBLFMU community concerned.

Twenty-seven participants from JBLCF-Bacolod attended the event and in the research colloquium, Engr. Jed Y. Azucena presented his paper entitled “Organizational Safety, Culture, Values, Practices and Outcomes of Maritime Higher Education Institutions in Western Visayas” while 2/E Cloyd E. Verdeflor shared the best practices of JBLCF-Bacolod through his paper entitled “Experiential Learning: A Framework for Outcome-Based Education.”

Expectedly, all presenters reported findings, recommendations, new concepts, ideas, information and practices which may be helpful for the improvement or development of the various operations of the institution.

 

 

Six interesting papers presented at 2017 Bacolod Unit Research Colloquium

Year after year, the papers presented during the Unit Research Colloquium have truly impacted not just the JBLCF-Bacolod community, but the rest of the research community. Being the Maritime Vanguard, the theme of the 2017 Unit Research Colloquium and Research Utilization is “Steering the wheel towards global excellence, making collective decisions through Research.” In line with IMS policy of the institution, which is “to maintain the highest standards of Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Protection in our consistent drive to satisfy and strive to exceed stakeholders’ expectation,” participants from the faculty and staff of JBCLF-Bacolod have geared towards making researches beneficial to the school, its employees, and even to the students.

The program was held at the HMA Function Hall last August 25, 2017, and was attended by the department heads and a number of faculty and staff of JBLCF-B. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Mae Flor Posadas, Director for Research and Development of Central Philippine State University, Kabankalan City.

Starting the line of presenters is no less than the Administrator himself, Mr. Robert O. Parcia in his paper entitled “Employees’ Financial Literacy, Behavior, Stress, and Wellness: A Correlational Study.”

Another paper deemed very timely and practical is the study presented by Jan Michael E. Enriquez, Unit Health Officer and Representative Officer for Research of the College of Maritime Education, on “Nutrition and Fitness: Health Habits, Practices and level of Physical Activity of JBLCF-Bacolod Employees.” Mrs. Grace Ibardolaza, faculty member of the College of Maritime Education, enlightened and engaged the participants on her paper “Motivational Factors and Degree of Commitment of JBLCF Bacolod Instructors”. study on the “Employability Skills, OJT Performance, and Academic Achievements of BSCA Graduating Students” was presented by Engr. Raul Ramos, a faculty of the College of Business Education. Gathering the interest of the crowd was the paper presented by 2/M Edgar T. Lemoncito entitled “From Seafaring to Teaching: Commitment, Competence, and Challenges of Deck and Engine Professional Instructors.” Dr. Jose Lizael Lampinez, a faculty member of the College of Maritime Education and at the same time the External Affairs Marketing Officer, presented his paper on the “Professional and Instructional Responsibilities: Basis for Improvement among General Education Faculty of the Maritime Department.”

A panel of experts graced the event with wonderful constructive critiques and inputs in the persons of Dr. Carmen Menes of La Consolacion College-Bacolod, Dr. Mae Flor Posadas of CPSU-Kabankalan City, and Dr. Melchor Magramo, Director for Research and Extension of JBLFMU.

Closing the program, Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo, Unit Research Coordinator of JBLCF-Bacolod, delivered a heartfelt gratitude to all who supported the event and the Research Department of the institution as a whole. One can never over-emphasize the importance of research in any aspect of life. Bacolod CME and CBE departments hold separate Students’ Research Colloquium

For the third time, the College of Maritime Education (CME) and College of Business Education (CBE) held their Students’ Research Colloquium on March 8, 2017 and March 24, 2017 respectively. This event is part of the institution’s articulation of the research culture in consonance to one of the Ten-Point Agenda—Strong Research Program.

The 3rd Students’ Research Colloquium of the CBE featured four papers that were presented by Christine Rose P. Yocson (BSCA 3), Clarence A. Togle (BSCA 4), Lawrelie Cay C. Allen (BSHRM 3-A), and Leomar Roger R. Cagadas (BSHRM 3-A). The event was graced by the presence of Dr. May Flor Posadas, Director for Research and Development Services of the Central Philippines State University, who delivered the Keynote Speech which inspired the student participants in their pursuit to finish their on-going papers. Dr. Posadas was joined by Dr. Milagros Aurea A. Sabidalas, VP-Academics of Kabankalan Catholic College, who served as member of the panel of reviewers.

The successful event was spearheaded and facilitated by Mrs. Darlene D. Sabandal, Representative Officer for Research of the college in close coordination with Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo, Research Coordinator of JBLCF-Bacolod and the Dean of the College of Business Education, Mrs. Ana Juline C. Dangallo. The working committee of the colloquium was composed of Dr. Violeta A. Neri, Mrs. Jarebeth M. Bangoy, Mr. Ronn Elly Pedregosa, Mrs. Kristine Rose Necesario, Mr. Roy Villarosa, and Miss Geneveve M. Aguilar.

The 3rd Students’ Research Colloquium of the College of Maritime Education, on the other hand, was held on March 24, 2017, under the leadership of Dr. Ruby D. Causing, Subject Area Head for Languages and Research, and the support of her committee composed of Mrs. Elisa V. Garcia, Mrs. Cynthia U. Buga-ay, and Mrs. Joanna S. Gudio. The CME Team was under the direction of Dr. Araceli C. Doromal, Unit Academic Coordinator, who also served as the Keynote Speaker of the event. The activity revolved on the theme “Developing Academic Integrity and Literacy through Research”

The CME Students’ Research Colloquium was graced by the presence of Mr. Robert O. Parcia (OIC Administrator of JBLCF-Bacolod), Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo (Unit Research Coordinator), and Dr. Dennis Kit Madrigal of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, who served as reactor of the three papers that were presented.

In the said colloquium, Mdpn. Jacko Martino R. Deguit (BSMarE 3) presented his paper titled “Students’ Level of Performance in Solving Problems Involving Ratio and Proportion” and Mdpn. Mark Danielle E. Salinas (BSMT 3) with his paper, “Examining the High School Students’ Level of Satisfaction on the Learning Environment and Classroom Facilities of JBLCF-Bacolod.” Furthermore, Mdpn. Archie P. Ruiz (BSMarE 3) presented his paper, “Leadership Qualities and Management Styles of Superiors on board Vessels” while Mdpn. James B. Paligumba presented his paper, “Waste Disposal Practices of Selected Students of JBLCF-Bacolod: Their Compliance and Non-Compliance.” Mrs. Grace D. Ibardolaza served as the Master of Ceremony of the program.

Iloilo City—The 2017 System Research Colloquium and Sharing of Best Practices were held at the JBL Hall of JBLFMU-Arevalo on January 27, 2017. The event was graced by Capt. Luis G. Evidente and the three able Administrators of the academic units: Mr. Robert O. Parcia of JBLCF-Bacolod, Engr. Roberto Neal S. Sobrejuanite of JBLFMU-Arevalo and Dr. Capt. Alfred G. Espinosa of JBLFMU-Molo. Also present were Dr. Lourdes C. Arañador, System Academic Director, together with the Academic Coordinators of all units composed of Dr. Araceli C. Doromal, Dr. Geneva Eler, and Dr. Lily Sumbi. Leading the Research Team was Dr. Melchor M. Magramo, System Research Director, with the Research Coordinators of all units, Dr. Emeliza T. The event started with the Research Colloquium where three papers were presented and critiqued. The presenters were composed of Ms. Ruth Balajadia, Program Head for BSCA in the College of Business Education of JBLCF-Bacolod who presented her paper entitled “A Tracer Study of the BSCA Graduates of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation,” 3/E Silvestre C. Saldavia with his presentation of “Safety at the Maritime University Campus: Response to International Standard,” and Mrs. Conny A. Abangan for her paper “Level of Competencies on the Use of Simulator Operations Among Selected BSMT Students.” The critics that were invited to react on the papers were composed of Dr. Cecilia D. Alimen (University of San Agustin), Dr. Roel A. Alli (West Visayas State University), Dr. Reynaldo N. Dusaran (Central Philippine University).

For the Sharing of Best Practices, everyone was enlightened by three more presentations. Mr. Paul S. Magbanua, Faculty of the JBLCF-Bacolod High School Department, shared one of the best practices of his unit entitled “Student Study Journal: Bridging the Gap Between Parents and the School.” Ms. Florence Taburda, Faculty of the College of Business of JBLFMU-Molo, shared her best in the “Electronic Appointment System for Academic Counseling,” while Mrs. Mary Mae Jun Palma-Esmaya of JBLFMU-Arevalo shared on “e-Portfolio: An OBE Tool for Technical Writing.” It was another day of intellectual sharing for everyone who came to join the event.

Various papers were presented by 11 faculty and staff researchers during the 2016 Unit Research Colloquium on September 15-16, 2016, Audio-Visual Room of the Jo Tankers Building. C/M Alex D. Tan, Subject Area Head for BSMT presented the paper entitled “Teaching Performance of Marine Deck Instructors: Exploring Opportunities for Improvement on Pedagogy” which she co-authored with Mrs. Joanna S. Gudio, Subject Area Head for Filipino, Social Sciences and Humanities. Another paper entitled “Simulation Skills of BSMT 3 Students on Shiphandling and Maneuvering” was presented by 2/M Hendrickson E. Dioko, a paper he authored with Capt. Cesar Jolito and C/M Nestor B. Sapar. All three of them are deck instructors of the College of Maritime Education.
